But should you continue eating low carb high fat while pregnant or nursing? We have the answers for you!
Is the Ketogenic diet safe for pregnant women?
Getting enough protein for both the mother and baby can be quite difficult while following the Keto diet. Some studies have also shown, however, that babies of mothers who were on a Keto diet during early pregnancy were born with smaller brains and larger hearts, suggesting that the Keto diet might not be the best for pregnant women and their unborn children.
Is the Keto diet okay for nursing moms?
Low carb diets like the Keto diet can cause a decrease in milk production and dehydration. Generally, going off of the diet will boost milk production to normal rates. Nursing mothers who are on the Keto diet should be sure to drink enough water and stay hydrated. Otherwise, it is best to wait until your baby is at least 2 months old or even old enough to eat solid foods before resuming the low carb high fat way of life.

What questions should you ask your doctor about continuing Keto?
Be sure to talk to your doctor about whether or not the Keto diet is a good idea based on your personal information and body weight, as well as any health problems you or the baby may have. especially if the pregnancy is high risk or there are complications. In most cases, the doctor will say it is not a good idea until after the baby is born.
Generally speaking, it may be better to give yourself grace and say “pass the doughnut!” while pregnant and nursing. Bacon and cauliflower will still be waiting for you when you are ready to slim that post-baby body!
