8 Things you can do NOW to be Healthier
Stop Eating Out!
One of the biggest and easiest things you can do to be healthier is to stop eating at restaurants! For one, you never know what you’re actually getting at a restaurant. Sure, you may have ordered the healthy choice, but you might have ordered on the day that Disgruntled Joe was working, and Disgruntled Joe injects extra butter into all the lighter options. I even read an article where a McDonald’s employee loved to soak the Egg White Delights in butter, saying, “if they wanted to eat healthy, they shouldn’t be coming to McDonald’s!”
It is so important to teach yourself to cook healthy foods! Even if you’re not a cook, there are so many easy and healthy things you can make. Food manufacturers are making it easier than ever to be healthy. Eating steamed vegetables is as simple now as throwing a bag into a microwave now!
Avoid office snacks
I work with a bunch of chocoholics. There is ALWAYS something there to remind me of my sugar obsession, whether it be cupcakes, brownies, doughnuts, or candy. I cannot avoid the kitchen, but I can make it harder on myself to give into temptation. I bring fruit cups to stash in my desk and fresh fruit when I can to fight those sweet cravings!
I think chewing gum might just be the healthiest choice you can make. Chewing gum can help you quit smoking, is good for your teeth, and can help keep your mouth too busy to reach for high calorie snacks and junk food!
I sit in front of a computer all day, and then I come home and work on this website in the evenings. It’s a lot of sitting! I have to take a lot of extra steps to make sure I am staying at least somewhat active. Set an alarm on your wearable fitness device, your smartphone, or your computer to remind you to get up and move around at least once an hour! Check out this post for some more ways you can add more steps to your day if you work a desk job.
Stop drinking soda and sugary drinks
If you are looking to drop a significant amount of weight quickly, cutting out sodas will probably yield immediate results! It is never a good idea to drink your calories. It’s always best to drink water. But even if you don’t like the taste of water, there are a lot of great companies out there like Stur Drinks and Sweet Leaf who have some tasty all-natural water flavor enhancers! Or try an infuser water bottle like my personal favorite, the Zing Anything Citruszinger Sport.
Stop eating chips
Are you a mindless snacker? Don’t feel bad; you’re not alone! Potato chips are one of the most unhealthy foods out there. Instead, opt for healthier options like celery and hummus or even peanuts. I take little packs of peanuts with me everywhere I go! For more healthy alternatives, check out these 10 tasty low-carb alternatives!
Add a salad to lunch and dinner
Look at your plate. Do you see green? Adding a side salad to every meal can help you eat less of the more unhealthy foods, and it will help you get the vitamins and nutrients your body needs. Just remember to skip the fattening dressings and toppings like cheese, croutons, and bacon! A simple side salad doesn’t have to have a meal’s worth of calories. Keep it simple. Here are 5 easy healthy homemade salad dressings you should try!
Walk on your lunch break
You probably get an hour on your lunch break. How long does it take you to eat? My husband and I like to take salads or sandwiches to the park on our lunch break and then walk on the trail. We can usually get 1-2 miles in on our break. It definitely helps, and it’s an easy change to make. For all those “I don’t have time to exercise” people, I totally recommend lunch walking, because I’m like you in that I’m not a morning person and I don’t want to come home, cook, clean, feed the animals, work on my website, and then work out too…no thanks!
