Welcome to my 5 Healthy Foods series! In this series, I will feature 5 healthy foods to eat at various fast food and sit-down restaurants. Today I will be featuring Hardee’s/Carl’s Jr., a notoriously unhealthy fast food restaurant known for its piled-to-the-sky Thickburgers and 2000 calorie combos.
Did you know there’s a whole other side of Hardee’s? They are one of the few fast food restaurants that caters to the low-carb diet crowd. They actually have some of the tastier not-as-bad-for-you restaurant options. Another salad? No thank you! Sometimes you just want a burger!
One thing that makes Hardee’s special is their terminology. Remember these terms next time you swing through a drive-thru!

“Low Carb It”–Turn any burger or chicken sandwich into a lettuce-wrapped sandwich without the bun.
“Swap Your Combo”–Swap fries and drink for salad and bottled water.
“Veg It”–Remove or substitute the meat
“Trim It”–No mayo or cheese

Folded egg and thinly sliced ham stacked on fresh sourdough toast–330 calories, 19g protein, 2g fiber
Thickburger (Hold the Patty), “Veg It”
A veggie version of the classic Thickburger, featuring premium produce and all the fixings–550 calories, 11g protein, 3g fiber (lower calories even more by cutting mayo!)
